Its an interesting combination, a Sylvari Guardian. Not the kind of thing one expects a Sylvari to be at all ,but it works awwesomely, and I kidn of feel like you've made the armor fit the Sylvari theme too which is awesome
Thanks, Guardian seemed to be the best profession choice for my Sylvari character. I guess it's the idea that I see Guardians as a kind of "white knight" type of class. Seemed a bit fitting for a Sylvari since they're supposed to be pure/innocent.
Though I like the idea that the melee profession gives her a bit of an attitude. Also that I see her not being nearly as naive or childlike as other Sylvari.
Thats fair enough. I can see your connection there, It just probably wouldn't have occurred to me to see a Sylvari carrying plate armor and heavy melee weapons haha. I suppose there's no reason why not!
Yeah, the whole "Sylvari wearing platemail" thing didn't compute in my head either. Since this was technically my first draft of the character, her armor/weapon turned more into bark/thorns in the other piece.
Thank you for the heads up, I'll check them out now! Oh, and don't worry I had an awesome time. I hope you did too! What characters are you playing? I'm trying a Charr Theif, a Human Necro and a Norn Guardian
Sylvari Guardian is a very interesting choice, as they're not a combination I'd have thought to go with. Of course it doesn't affect stats at all obviously but just in terms of the theme I guess. I'm intrigued by necromancers in every race - I suppose I love the aesthetic, and playing as a AoE condition dealer has been quite fun too. Charr thief is another class that interests me, but I'm playing it already and I'm not too good at it I must admit. I love the idea of the Sylvari Nightmare Court so I really hope that becomes a playable story line and I can play that as either a Mesmer or Necromancer. That'd really make my day - though, looking at how all the other playable classes so far have had an evil NPC version (Flame Legion, Bandits and Sons of Svanir) so I would bet money that Nightmare Court is the Sylvari's evil NPC twin.
That is out standing! I don't know how many people have thought of Sylvarri, but I didn't even consider this when I was reading about the Guardian. I just wish I could make stuff like this, then I could turn my sketch of a female Charr ranger into a real picture.
This was made for a thread over the on the GW2 board where there's a weekly "challenge" to draw a certain topic. To be honest, before I saw that thread, I never really gave the Sylvari much thought either. But I had a ton of fun drawing that picture and am actually looking forward to seeing the new design of that race.
As for your Charr sketch, I'd say just start drawing and just have fun from there. Hardest part is just getting something down on paper.
This looks so great (incase I didn't comment on it in your thread) I love how sharp the edges and the shine are. I also really like the hair; the blurry/smeary/blendy ness of the colours work really well, even if hair is usually the exact opposite O;
Usually I wouldn't think blood red haired sylvari's would look good, but this deffinatly worked well.
Epic Ya know, they haven't shown much of the sylavri in the class videos, have they? This is an absolutely amazing pic, Changing ^^ Your art is amazing and really fits the style of GW2 so well (I totally want to hang with ya in the game when it comes out... XD; ) Keep up the great work, and awesome job with your vision of a Sylvari Guardian! ^^
Yeah, I actually don't think they did at all. I just saw them in the MMO Manifest they released and that was it. Have we seen much of the Norn, either?
Heheh, and you will be seeing me as well. XD I just wonder how the realm system works... [or the character limit on guild names, I'm going to rename the one I inherited and now have lead for a year or two XD;]
Yeah, I really don't think there are either... I did see that article that shows a few shots of the Norn starter area though... although I mostly read it for the little bit they included in there about Winds of Change for Cantha. Going to be quite awesome
